Three Guidelines for Cell Phone Etiquette

The arrival of wholesale cell phones has made this contemporary telecommunication method affordable, readily available and at this point, ever-present. That public acceptance requires attention to the question of cell phone etiquette: what are the “musts” for allowable cell phone use? The following are three guidelines for making wholesale mobile phone usage consistent with the golden rule.

First, do not answer a cell phone in the middle of a meeting with another human being or in a group. Although some people, especially today’s youth, have an immense tolerance for multi-tasking, being interrupted, and diverting attention from the folks they are talking to, in ordinary business and social settings, picking up a cell phone and terminating the immediate conversation is rude. Cell phone wholesalers offer versions of the product with alternatives that can avoid the problem: select a cell phone and a service package that have voice mail; make sure you have caller identification and a way to discern “missed calls”; and be able to turn off the ringer so you can disregard it. And don’t think that texting is okay because it is silent – you are still being impolite to the real life discussion that you are having.

Second, dial down the volume. What is it about cell phones that makes users think they can or have to be so cacophonous? The other people in the coffee house or theater or book shop just do not want to overhear your discussion about your latest bout with indigestion or horrendous social outings. Even if you use a relatively cheap wholesale cell phone, that doesn’t mean you are doomed to poor sound quality – to the contrary, your caller will be able to hear you and if not, hang up and make the call from a different location or at some other time where signal and sound quality are better.

Third, hang up when you are supposed to be engaged in some other task. What is more infuriating than being trapped in a retail store queue while some clown in front of the line fumbles with their merchandise, takes their own sweet time, and ignores the cashier because they are mumbling on their cell phone or text messaging devoutly? Likewise, the entire subject of utilizing a cell phone while driving is contentious, but cell phone wholesalers recommend at least the use of a headset while driving or engaged in other functions that ideally require use of two hands and close attention.

Cell phone civility is really a matter of ordinary good sense. Talk on your cell phone in appropriate situations and with utmost regard for privacy and the predilections of others. Then you can get the most out of the benefits of this fabulous technology, without feeling remorse!
